Capt’n Butcher’s in Sebastian practicing safety measures and cooking delicious food

Captn' Butcher's in Sebastian, Florida.

We are still making our visits to local restaurants to review their safety practices amid the COVID-19 pandemic and checking out the food.

Our latest trip was to Capt’n Butcher’s Grille, Bar & Marina, located at 1730 Indian River Drive in Sebastian.

We enjoyed our recent dining experience at Capt’n Butcher’s and are happy to report that all the employees were wearing masks. Some even wore gloves. The staff is also disinfecting all tables and seats following each customer.

Their lunch prices are very reasonable and competitive for Sebastian.

The dinner prices can be high, but the food is worth it. We ordered dinner on this visit. Our server was Devon, who was very courteous, friendly, and fast. The service was outstanding.

Oh, the bread! We can’t say enough about the freshly baked bread that came with a bowl of olive oil and fresh garlic for dipping. They serve it nice and warm.

We started with the Crab Cake appetizer, two cakes that are seared and presented with light arugula salad and key lime remoulade. I enjoyed the Crab Cake appetizer.

However, I prefer to have larger lumps of crab meat. It tasted like it had a lot of fillers. It isn’t easy to impress me with crab cakes since I was born in Maryland and spent most of my summers there. You can’t find good Maryland crab here in Florida.

Captain Hirams Resort used to have to best crab cakes in Sebastian, a recipe that Martin Carter put together for many years. Carter was one of the original owners of the resort before he retired. He’s also from Maryland. Today, I believe Crab E Bills has the best crab cake in Sebastian.

As a suggestion from our server Devon, she recommended the Seafood Platter with Mahi, the catch of the day. I ordered it blackened, and they served it with seared jumbo shrimp, scallops, citrus beurre blanc, coconut rice, and string beans. They sprinkled some garlic over the string beans, which was a great addition.

Everything on this platter was great. The scallops were cooked perfectly. Some restaurants tend to overcook scallops, but I was delighted with them at Capt’n Butcher’s. The price for the dinner was $32, and worth every bit.

My wife ordered the Seafood Oscar with seared scallops and shrimp served over asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes, topped with lump crab meat over lobster cream.

She was very impressed with her meal, as well. The mashed potatoes were some of the best we’ve tasted anywhere, and everything was cooked to her liking. The price for her dinner was also $32.

Don’t forget the dessert

After enjoying our dinner so much, we decide that we have to try out the desserts. We both ordered their homemade cheesecake. It was served with cool whip, caramel, and a sprinkle that tasted like graham crackers.

How was it, you ask? It is by far the best cheesecake we’ve had in Sebastian! At first, the cheesecake looks like a scoop of ice cream, but it is cheesecake.

We highly recommend eating at Capt’n Butcher’s; everything was delicious, the service was excellent, and the view is spectacular.
