We visited Capt’n Butchers in Sebastian last Friday and once again enjoyed our dining experience.

The first thing we noticed was that all employees are wearing masks. So if that is important to you, you will feel comfortable.

Since it was a chilly and rainy night, we chose to sit inside. However, they do have plenty of outdoor seating and tables with umbrellas for shade if you prefer.

Most people know by now that I’m very picky when it comes to crab cakes, so I ordered one as a sandwich after seeing it on the menu.

Being born in Maryland and spending my summers there on the Chesapeake Bay as a teenager, I did quite a bit of crabbing off docks, and my grandfather used to cook us up carb cakes with his special recipe, which included Old Bay seasoning. We’re talking about newspapers on tables and wooden hammers when dining, which was a summer tradition.

In Florida, it’s hard to find good crab cakes. There’s nothing like real Maryland crab, so that’s why I am so picky when local restaurants serve Crab Cakes

Some restaurants use too many “fillers” when making the cake, using less meat, and that’s not how you should make a crab cake.

Capt. Hirams has a great Crab Cake Sandwich; its recipe was created by former owner Martin Carter was originally from Ocean City, Maryland.

Another great place for a Crab Cake Sandwich is at Mo-Bay Grill in Sebastian.

At Capt’n Butchers, the Crab Cake Sandwich comes with fries, or you can substitute for a different side, but the fries are seasoned and pretty good. I enjoyed the sandwich. It’s nothing like real Maryland crab, but it’s one of the best in Sebastian.

The service was prompt, and the food was excellent. We have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.

You can read another Capt’n Butchers review we did a few months ago. We recommended their bread with fresh garlic and butter, served soft and warm, and their homemade cheesecake.

Capt’n Butchers Grille, Bar & Marina is located at 1730 Indian River Drive in Sebastian, Florida. Parking is available near the building and across the street.
