The Captain Hirams Resort will be closed temporarily after a second employee received confirmation of a second COVID-19 case.
On Tuesday, the hotel was shut down after an employee tested positive. They planned to keep other parts of the resort open, such as the restaurant until the second case was discovered.
“This case was reported in the restaurant. Out of respect to this person, I will not be sharing any specifics. We have communicated with all associates who may have had contact with him/her and they will be waiting the required 14 day quarantine period or providing documentation of a negative test before returning to work,” Capt. Hirams president Will Collins said.
All facilities are closed until right now and guests are not allowed on the property during this time.
“We will use this time to deep clean and ensure that we are taking all the necessary precautions. We do not have a timeline for allowing the general public back in at this time,” Collins said.
“Moving forward we feel that dramatically decreasing the number of guests we have on the property by limiting access to hotel guest only will ensure that all of our employees and guests will be able to observe proper social distancing guidelines at all times,” Collins added.
Collins said their focus right now will remain on the health and safety of their employees and guests.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Sebastian are on the rise, with 58 cases as of Wednesday, with Fellsmere jumping to 183 cases.
