1 Sebastian restaurant shut down during health inspections for March 2023

Pizza Hut, Crab E Bills, Hen House, Wendy’s, Twisted Pickle, and Sebastian’s Roadside Restaurant had some of the best inspections last month in Sebastian. 

But the inspections for No. 1 China, Vic’s Pizza, Portside Pub & Grill, Pelican Diner, and Vic’s Pizza didn’t do well. In addition, Taco Chela was shut down for 24 hours after failing its inspection.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s, located at 13395 US-1, had 8 violations, but none were high priority. They had debris in a floor drain in the back area, no paper towels at a handwash sink, a garbage compactor soiled with debris, a dusty fan cover in the walk-in cooler, and no handwash soap provided in the public restroom.

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspections. 

Rack’em

Rack’em, located at 13527 US-1, had 7 violations, but none were high priority. The violations were for basic stuff, including a handwashing sink that had no sign provided in the public restroom for food employees, no proof of required state-approved employee training provided for any employees. 

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspection, but a follow-up is needed to verify employee training.

The Pelican Diner

The Pelican Diner at 100 Brush Foot Drive in Sebastian had 12 violations, and two were listed as high-priority. 

High Priorities:

All other violations were basic and intermediate for things such as having no copy of the previous inspection report available, hood filters soiled with grease, and a handwashing sink used for purposes other than handwashing. 

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspection. 

Crab E Bills

Crab E Bills, located at 1540 Indian River Drive in Sebastian, had 7 violations, with no high priorities. All violations were basic, including standing water on the bottom of a walk-in cooler, a grill with some debris on it, and water temperature at a sink below 100 degrees. An employee fixed the temperature, which is now above 100.

All violations were corrected on-site, and they passed their health inspection.

Wendy’s

Wendy’s, located at 1625 US-1 in Sebastian, had 5 violations with no high priorities. All basic, including things such as a pitcher left in a handwashing sink (the violation states a handwashing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use). There was also no proof of required state employee-certified training with employees or the manager.

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspection, but a follow-up is needed to verify employee training.

Taco Chela

Tacochela, located at 1103 US-1 in Sebastian, was shut down by the health inspection for 24 hours in March. They had 7 violations, 5 were for high-priority violations. 

High Priorities:

All other violations were for basic maintenance items, such as a loose gasket reach-in cooler at the front window. All violations were corrected after the restaurant was reinspected following its shutdown.

Sebastian’s Roadside Restaurant

Sebastian’s Roadside Restaurant, located at 10795 US-1 in Sebastian, had 9 violations, mostly basic for things such as a dusty shelf, bags of ice on the walk-in cooler floor (this violation occurs when something is stored less than 6 inches on the floor), and some food items not marked with a date.

All violations were corrected on-site.

Domino’s Pizza

Domino’s Pizza, located at 971 Sebastian Blvd in Sebastian, had 6 violations with no high priorities. The basic violations included a dirty kitchen hood; the floor soiled under an oven, and no copy of required state-approved employee training.

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspection, but a follow-up is needed to verify employee training for some employees.

Italian Cousin

The Italian Cousin, located at 480 US-1 in Sebastian, had 10 violations, with 2 for high-priority for a dish machine in disrepair and an employee cutting bread without wearing gloves.

The other violations were for maintenance issues and no proof of required state-approved employee training for some employees.

All violations were corrected on-site. They passed their inspection, but a follow-up is needed to verify employee training.

Portside Pub & Grill

Portside Pub & Grill, located at 717 Coolidge Street in Sebastian, had 13 violations, with three high priority. 

High Priorities:

The other violations were basic, such as employees not wearing hair restraints while preparing food. The interior of the microwave has an accumulation of black substance/grease/food debris, and a handwashing sink was not accessible for use because a table blocked it.

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed.

No. 1 China

No. 1 China, located at 728 S. Fleming Street in Sebastian, had 16 violations, with 6 listed as high priority.

High Priorities:

The other violations were for multiple employees eating in a food preparation area, which is prohibited. Containers of chicken are stored on the floor and not on a shelf in the freezer, and no proof is provided that food employees are informed of their responsibility to report to the person in charge information about their health and activities related to foodborne illnesses. 

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed, but a follow-up is needed to verify employee training.

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut, located at 1451 Sebastian Blvd, Unit 10 in Sebastian, had 3 violations, none were high priority. The violations were for a box of food stored on a floor and not a shelf in the freezer, and a no-contact food area was dirty.

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed.

TJ’s New York-Style Pizza

TJ’s New York-Style Pizza, located at 967 Sebastian Blvd in Sebastian, had 8 violations, none were high priority. Some of the violations were for a damaged ceiling tile, a gap in an exterior door, a handwash sink not accessible for employee use at all times, and other building maintenance issues. 

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed.

Twisted Pickle

Twisted Pickle, located at 8980 US-1, Unit 4 in Sebastian, had 5 violations. No high priorities. The violations included not having a description on food labels, a dirty oven, and a handwashing sink not always available for employees.

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed.

Vic’s Pizza

Vic’s Pizza, located at 1140 US-1 in Sebastian, had 13 violations, none were high priority. Some of the violations were for a dirty warewashing machine, food debris under a steam-well, no handwashing sign near sink, hood filters soiled in grease, and a dirty can opener. There were some building maintenance issues.

All violations were corrected on-site, and the inspection passed.

Hen House Eatery

Hen House Eatery, located at 11632 US-1, had 6 violations with 2 listed as high priority.

High Priorities:

The other violations were building maintenance issues such as a damaged ceiling tile inside a storage room.
