COVID-19 Update for Indian River County, Brevard County, Florida

This is an update on coronavirus cases in Indian River County and Brevard County.

Sebastian Mayor Ed Dodd joined us Monday for a live newscast to discuss the parks, boat ramps, and to answer other questions.

Also, state health department officials are not providing us with the number of “recoveries” in Indian River and Brevard counties. We’ve asked for this information repeatedly. This is what they sent us.

“The State Department of Health does not currently measure ‘recovery,’ and doesn’t expect to have such a designation anytime in the near future,” officials said.

Local:

  • Sebastian: 7 cases
  • Fellsmere: 1 case
  • Malabar: 1 case
  • Grant-Valkaria: 1 case
  • Barefoot Bay: 1 case
  • Micco: 0 cases
  • Vero Beach: 52 cases

Indian River County has a population of 154,000. The patients are 58% men and 42% women between the ages of 8 to 94.

Indian River County Coronavirus Cases

  • Cases: 77 (8 non-residents)
  • Deaths: 1
  • Tested Negative: 1,016
  • Hospitalizations: 20
  • Awaiting Results: 44

Brevard County has a population of 590,000. The patients are 49% men and 51% women between the ages of 1 to 94.

Brevard County Coronavirus Cases

  • Cases: 156 (6 non-residents)
  • Deaths: 6
  • Tested Negative: 2,792
  • Hospitalizations: 38
  • Awaiting Results: 3

The total number of cases, deaths, and people who have tested negative in Florida.

Florida

  • Cases: 21,367 (630 non-Florida residents)
  • Deaths: 524
  • Tested Negative: 181,813
  • Hospitalizations: 2,9094

Here’s some data on the number of new cases per day in Florida:

  • 3/31 – 938 cases
  • 4/1 – 1,044 cases
  • 4/2 – 1,288 cases
  • 4/3 – 1,310 cases
  • 4/4 – 1,167 cases
  • 4/5 – 774 cases
  • 4/6 – 1,196 cases
  • 4/7 – 1,045 cases
  • 4/8 – 1,078 cases
  • 4/9 – 1,060 cases
  • 4/10 – 1,120 cases
  • 4/11 – 1,103 cases
  • 4/12 – 842 cases
  • 4/13 – 971 cases

So far, the new cases in Florida peaked on April 2nd and April 3rd. The curve may be flattening in Florida.

United States

The total number of cases, deaths, and people who have recovered from the virus in the United States.

  • Cases: 583,220
  • Deaths: 23,649
  • Recoveries: 44,308

Global

The total number of cases, deaths, and people who have recovered from the virus around the world.

  • Cases: 1,935,646
  • Deaths: 120,914
  • Recoveries: 464,995

Sebastian

Cleveland Clinic, Indian River Hospital, is providing drive-through testing by appointments from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. To make an appointment, call the hospital at 772-226-4846.

For now, if you are 65 or older, or have an illness or chronic condition, please stay home.
