VERO BEACH — Local radio host Ellen Contreras will lead a discussion on starting new ventures later in life at a free community event next month, joined by the author of a book aimed at inspiring women entrepreneurs.
The Vero Beach branch of the American Association of University Women is hosting the Book Review Breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on March 2 in the Richardson Center at Indian River State College’s Vero Beach campus. Contreras, founder and host of the iHeartRadio show “Treasure Coast Connector,” will review “The Little Girls’ Guide to Entrepreneurship: What I Now Know but Wish I Knew Then” by Emily McHugh.
McHugh, the book’s author, plans to attend and share personal viewpoints, adding a direct connection for attendees. The pair will cover topics such as trusting one’s instincts, viewing life experience as a strength and jumping into new ideas even if the timing isn’t ideal.
Contreras, known for her interviews with small-business owners on the Treasure Coast, brings her own background in community connections and resilience to the talk. Her show spotlights local entrepreneurs and helps link them with potential customers and partners.
The book mixes hands-on tips with lessons from real-life challenges, targeting women eyeing a business startup, side project or career shift. Its core idea: Age is no barrier to launching something worthwhile.
The event is open to the public at no cost. Organizers encourage participants to donate new or gently used books to support four Little Free Libraries maintained by the branch.
The AAUW-Vero Beach, a 501©(3) nonprofit, promotes equity for women and girls through education, research and advocacy. For more details, contact the group through its local chapter.
