SEBASTIAN — Team members at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital rolled up their sleeves last week to pack food kits for homeless veterans as part of the health system’s Day of Giving.
Hospital President Dan Bowen, a 21-year U.S. Air Force veteran, led the volunteer effort alongside Sebastian Mayor Fred Jones. Bowen wore his military uniform in honor of fellow service members, while many staff members showed their support in red, white and blue shirts, military apparel and camouflage.
The group assembled 500 food kits for National Veterans Homeless Support.
“Orlando Health support of us on this day of giving to our veterans, to see all of my team members in that room coming in and volunteering their time to pack 500 bags for our veterans, and for me, it’s personal as a 21-year veteran of the Air Force,” Bowen said. “I’m just so thankful that we can support our brothers and sisters out there who are in need in our community.”
The project reflects Orlando Health’s ongoing commitment to community service that reaches beyond its Central Florida roots.
“Today is a powerful reminder of what makes our community so special,” said Megan Almasi, senior director of Orlando Health Community Relations. “By coming together as a team in service, we are humbled to help strengthen the place we call home, wherever that may be. We’re grateful to the many community partners who joined us in our mission to spend a day dedicated to making a lasting impact.”
Participation in the Day of Giving is open to all Orlando Health team members and community partners passionate about giving back.
