On Friday, August 6, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., the City of Fellsmere will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Fellsmere’s first Skate Park.

The event will be held at Senior League Park at 222 S. Myrtle, the location of the proposed skate park.

The Skate Park, championed by Mayor Joel Tyson, was originally an idea of local youth. Kyle Goldsmith, only ten years old at the time, spoke before City Council about the need for more recreation opportunities for local youth – specifically requesting a skate park.

When first introduced, Mayor Tyson opined, “Kyle, you will probably be around 19 when we can get this done.” Yet, just five years later, with funding assistance from the Community Development Block Grant program of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in partnership with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the skate park is becoming a reality.

The Contactor, American Ramp Company, expects to complete the project within six months, and Kyle will only be 15 years old.

Happy skating!
