VERO BEACH — Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital has acquired a prominent local orthopaedic practice, making it possible to expand access to dedicated bone, joint, and spine care for patients along Florida’s Treasure Coast.
The deal, announced Tuesday, brings the Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach into the Cleveland Clinic fold, combining its longstanding community relationships with the hospital’s nationally ranked orthopaedic program. Services will now include everything from joint replacements and sports medicine to advanced spine treatments, non-surgical options, minimally invasive surgeries, and rehabilitation, all based in Indian River County.
The acquisition also boosts physical therapy offerings for musculoskeletal issues, hospital officials said.
“This partnership strengthens the exceptional orthopaedic and spine care already available in our community,” said Dr. Richard Rothman, vice president and chief medical officer at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. “By bringing our teams together, we are boosting collaboration across clinic, operating room, and rehabilitation, expanding services, and making sure patients continue to receive the highest quality care close to home.”
Physicians and staff from the Orthopaedic Center will continue to see patients at their Vero Beach office, but will integrate into the hospital’s network. That means shared electronic health records, easier referrals, and connections to specialists across Cleveland Clinic’s five hospitals in Florida.
“Our team has cared for generations of Treasure Coast families,” said Dr. Richard Steinfeld, MD, MBA. “Joining Cleveland Clinic allows us to expand our services, offer more minimally invasive options, and coordinate rehabilitation so patients can return to their normal activities quickly and with confidence.”
“We continue to invest in Orthopedics and Spine Care and have integrated cutting-edge robotic technology into our operating rooms to improve care for patients having hip and knee surgeries,” Dr. Rothman said. “For advanced shoulder procedures, we use augmented reality navigation systems,” Dr. Rothman explained. “Ensuring all orthopedic surgeons on the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital medical staff can access these innovations helps us provide the Treasure Coast community with the most up-to-date surgical care.”
Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, a 332-bed facility in Vero Beach, is part of the wider Cleveland Clinic network in Florida. It provides a range of services, including orthopaedics and heart care, as well as neurosurgery and emergency medicine. The system stresses cooperation, compassion, and innovation, with roots in the Ohio-based Cleveland Clinic, known for handling complex cases. More details are available at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
