As we reported Monday during our update on Tropical Storm Karen, the projected path has moved to the west towards the Bahamas and Florida.
Karen is currently 85 miles south of San Juan, Puerto Rico moving at seven mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. There are tropical storm warnings for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the British Virgin Islands.
Tropical Storm Karen is expected to pass near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands today.
On Saturday, Karen is expected to make a sharp turn to the west towards the Bahamas and Florida. The storm will remain a tropical storm at least through Sunday.
Most of the spaghetti models from various ensembles show Karen making a western turn towards the coast.
Karen will eventually strengthen, but there is a lot of dry air in the Atlantic that is hindering hurricane development and organization.
Karen is far away from our coast and could change direction again.
There’s no need to worry about this storm right now because it’s nowhere near Sebastian or Florida.
