Hurricane season, spanning June 1st through November 30th, reminds us that the tropics are still in full swing as our region is prone to these natural storms in Sebastian, Florida.
Currently, two weather systems are entering the Atlantic, yet they pose no risk to our region. One system is heading towards the Caribbean, while the other is near the Bahamas. Current tracking and forecast models indicate that these impending storms will bypass Florida.
After evaluating various weather models, it’s clear that the GFS and EURO models predict these disturbances will move further into the ocean, steering clear of Florida. We anticipate more accurate forecasts from NOAA in the coming hours.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has made statements regarding Disturbance 1, traveling the western Caribbean. “The environmental conditions seem favorable for further development, and there’s a possibility of a tropical depression forming in the next day or two as the system moves northeast towards Jamaica, Haiti, and eastern Cuba.”
The likelihood of this system evolving into a more structured storm in the next week is about 60 percent.
Disturbance 2 is already causing coastal flooding along Florida’s east coast, particularly in Miami. The NHC reports that the chances of this system developing into a tropical cyclone are slim. Nonetheless, it is generating strong winds and heavy rainfall as it moves northeast towards the Bahamas during the next day or so.
