Storm names and Atlantic Hurricane Season 2022 outlook for Sebastian

Atlantic Hurricane Season 2022

Atlantic Hurricane Season 2022

So far, independent forecasters predict an average to above-average season. However, we are waiting for the official outlook from NOAA scheduled on May 24.

The chances of a hurricane in Sebastian is anyone’s guess, as storms can make landfall anywhere in Florida. The Atlantic Hurricane Season 2022 runs from June 1 through November 30.

NOAA will begin monitoring potential storms for the Atlantic Hurricane Season 2022 starting this week, as they’ve done season for the past eight years. Last year was an active season, but luckily no hurricanes struck Sebastian, Florida. Unfortunately, forecasters say hurricane season 2022 will also be another busy.

Hurricanes are dangerous weather events that use heat from tropical waters to fuel their fury. These violent storms form over the open Atlantic, often beginning as a tropical wave–a low-pressure area that moves through the moisture-rich tropics, possibly enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity.

The water temperature also predicts how strong a storm will be for the hurricane season 2022 in the Atlantic. The warmer the temperature, the stronger the storm builds. In Sebastian, we had two back-to-back storms in 2004 that devasted our town. Hurricane Frances was a Category 2 storm when it made landfall. But then Hurricane Jeanne was a Category 3, and that strength caused a lot of damage. So, you can only imagine what Category 4 or 5 would do to our town.

Here’s a list of storm names for the 2022 Hurricane Season:

Tropical storms are less powerful, but they can still cause flooding and other damage. They can also create deadly tornados.

The time to prepare for the 2022 hurricane season is now. Sebastian Daily will provide emergency information during a storm.
