Indian River County Emergency Services Director, Dave Johnson, calls for a Burn Ban starting April 8 through April 15 or until further order.
“After collaborating with our neighboring counties, we decided it is in the best interest of our residents to issue a Burn Ban today,” said Johnson.
The Emergency Order mandates a burn ban for all areas of Indian River County, prohibiting all outdoor burning that the Florida Forestry Service has not specifically permitted.
“The treasure coast has experienced dry weather for an extended period of time, prompting the Emergency Order,” said Mike Zito, Interim Administrator.
It also bans all outdoor burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fireplaces, chimeneas, and cooking fires unless:
- authorized by the Florida Forest Service, or
- it is for cooking food exclusively within a gas or charcoal grill.
Additionally, setting fires to any grass, brush, or forest-covered land is prohibited unless authorized by the Florida Forest Service.
Dry Conditions
We are experiencing dry conditions in Sebastian, but there’s an 80% of rain for Sunday and Monday, which can help.
We could experience wind gusts of 25 mph on Sunday, which doesn’t help with dry conditions. The high winds will continue into next week.
