SEBASTIAN – Hurricane Irma could have done more damage than Hurricane Frances and Jeanne put together as areas in Indian River County including Sebastian, Fellsmere, and Vero Beach were spared.
Residents woke up Monday morning to find either minimal or no damage to their homes as Hurricane Irma continued on a northern track into Georgia.
Sebastian Businesses are reopening Tuesday as Florida Power & Light restores power in most areas.
In Vero Beach, a lot of people are without power, but FPL tells us they are working to restore most of the city today.
Fellsmere had reports of widespread flooding, but residents tell us this morning that their streets are starting to clear.
Barefoot Bay had power restored yesterday, but FPL had to shut it down to make a main line repair overnight.
FPL told Sebastian Daily that power in Barefoot Bay will be restored sometime today.
More than 6.7 million people in Florida were without power as of Monday afternoon.

Irma was the biggest hurricane threat to Indian River County in decades.
Residents are now worried about Hurricane Jose, but it’s still too early to predict where the storm is going. At this time it appears to be making a loop in the Atlantic before moving northeast.
Some residents are leaving their homes boarded up until they know for sure that Jose will not hit Florida.
Hurricane Jose does not pose any threat to Sebastian or Vero Beach at this time.
