SEBASTIAN – The tropics are always busy this time of year, and we’re keeping on eye on Hurricane Florence, Tropical Storm Helene, and Tropical Storm Isaac. Helene is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday.

Right now, no storms are threatening Sebastian or Vero Beach. It’s still too early to tell where these storms may travel.

Here’s what we do know about all three:

Hurricane Florence is taking a west-northwestward track with an increase in forward-speed expected by Monday. That motion is expected to continue through Wednesday.

“On the forecast track, the center of Florence will move over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas Tuesday and Wednesday, and approach the southeastern U.S. coast on Thursday,” according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical Storm Helene is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday. A hurricane watch is in effect for The Cabo Verde islands of Santiago, Fogo, and Brava. Helene already has sustained winds near 65 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Helene (when it becomes one later today) is expected to steer north and away from Florida.

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to weaken and dissipate as it encounters unfavorable conditions over the Caribbean Sea. The forecast does not threaten Florida at this time.

While these storms do not pose any threat to Sebastian or Vero Beach, we’ll continue to monitor them and will bring you updates as they happen.
