Hurricane Elsa has formed in the Atlantic with warnings posted for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and the Grenadines.
Elsa is located about 40 miles of Barbados and moving northwest at 28 mph with sustained winds at 75 mph.
“Elsa will pass near or over portions of the Windward Islands or the southern Leeward Islands this morning, move across the eastern Caribbean Sea late today and tonight, and move near the southern coast of Hispaniola on Saturday. By Sunday, Elsa is forecast to move near Jamaica and portions of eastern Cuba,” The National Hurricane Center said.
Most of the spaghetti tracking models show Elsa making landfall near the Florida Panhandle by Wednesday. However, Hurricane Elsa is expected to downgrade to a tropical storm by Sunday as it passes Jamaica and Cuba.
Since last night, the computer models have shifted slightly to the east, putting Sebastian in its cone of uncertainty. It’s still too early to predict the storm’s movement, but right now, the models are showing Elsa moving up the west coast of Florida.
What does this mean for Sebastian?
Unless weather conditions change, there is no threat of a tropical storm or hurricane for Sebastian, Florida. However, it should move closer to Florida by Tuesday.
In the coming days, we can expect a lot of wind and rain in Sebastian. Wind speeds could be up to 30 mph for our area if Elsa continues movement near the west coast.
