During this tropics watch, we have an update on three disturbances in the Atlantic, but one, near Africa, is expected to fizzle as the other two will gradually develop during the next few days.
There are no tropical threats for Sebastian at this time, but we want everyone to be informed until they pass.
Yesterday, we reported a tropics update and watch about a depression building in the Atlantic. Today, we found out that two tropical depressions are expected to form. One of the disturbances is heading in our direction, but it’s way too soon to predict a storm. The disturbance may remain a tropical depression and not become a hurricane.
We will know more in the coming days.
“This system could become a tropical depression while it moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. The disturbance is forecast to reach portions of the Lesser Antilles late Monday and then move across the eastern Caribbean Sea and Greater Antilles through the middle of this week,” the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
The other system may continue on a westward path without steering north, but it’s too early to predict its course.
“Environmental conditions are expected to become a little more favorable for gradual development, and this system could become a tropical depression within the next few days. The system is forecast to move slowly toward the west-southwest or west during the next couple of days, and then move a little faster toward the west by mid-week,” the NHC said.
In Sebastian, we are watching the development of these two storms. However, the storms are no threat to our area at this time.
