Sebastian News: Checkers Still Closed, Gym Owner Facing Fines, COVID-19 Update

It’s 79 degrees and sunny in Sebastian, Florida. We are under a Red Flag Warning until 8pm tonight. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will be shortly. This is a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity with warm temperatures. These conditions contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Restaurants have reopened, please be respectful with staff as they are working overtime to accomodate everyone. Restaurants have strict guidelines.

Indian River Fitness, located near Barefoot Bay, plans to reopen tomorrow despite Gov. Ron DeSantis’ order to remain closed. The owner says she has permission to reopen tomorrow, Friday, May 8th.

Man in Grant charged with 1st Degree Murder. Christopher Jordan Kane, of Grant, allegedly shot a victim three times for posting photo of himself with Kane’s girlfriend. A witness told police that Kane went to the victim’s home and began beating him with a crowbar before shooting him three times. Kane is being held at the Brevard County Jail without bond.
