MICCO — A 66-year-old Melbourne woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Main Street in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, troopers said.
The woman was driving a 2021 Kia Seltos eastbound on Main Street in Micco and attempted to make a left turn onto northbound U.S. 1, entering the path of a southbound 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 65-year-old man from Malabar, FHP told Sebastian Daily.
The front of the Dodge Ram struck the left side of the Kia Seltos. The impact caused the pickup to rotate and collide with a 2019 Honda Civic in the northbound left-turn lane on U.S. 1. The Honda was driven by a 19-year-old woman from Vero Beach who was making a U-turn.
The Melbourne woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Troopers said she was wearing a seatbelt.
The 65-year-old Malabar man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The 19-year-old Vero Beach woman was also transported with minor injuries. Five passengers in the Honda Civic — a 34-year-old woman and four children ages 12, 8, 6, and 5, all from Vero Beach — were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. Seatbelt use by the children was unknown.
The crash is still under investigation.
