VERO BEACH – On Friday, at approximately 12:42 p.m., the Vero Beach Police Department responded to the intersection of Indian River Blvd and the Merrill P Barber Bridge, in reference to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on a bicycle.

As a result, traffic was very congested all afternoon on Friday in Vero Beach.

A 1998 Chevrolet traveling through the intersection struck a male on a bicycle causing fatal injuries.

The bicyclist was identified as Christopher Hannon of Melbourne Beach.

Hannon was transported to Indian River Medical Center by EMS where he was later pronounced deceased by Indian River Medical Center staff.

“Vero Beach Police Department is conducting a Traffic Homicide Investigation at this time,” said Chief David E. Currey.

The Traffic Investigation Team is asking if any witnesses who saw the crash and have not spoken with law enforcement to please contact the Vero Beach Police Department at 772-978-4600.
