Micco residents are advised to prepare for a significant change in their commuting routes.

Starting late January 2024, Micco Road, a key route southwest of Barefoot Bay, will be closed for up to eight months. Access to Micco Road from US-1 will remain accessible, but will close before the bridge. Brevard County authorities said the closure is required due to the replacement of the bridge over the Sottile Canal.

The new construction aims to enhance the safety and travel experience with modern features. The replacement bridge will boast two 11-foot travel lanes, 8-foot paved shoulders, and a 5-foot sidewalk protected by a barrier.

During this period, authorities will reroute all traffic. The detour will redirect vehicles from Babcock Street and US-1 via Grant Road, Old Dixie Highway, to Shell Pit Road, bypassing Micco Road. Officials will display signs to guide drivers through the alternative routes.

The County’s Public Works Department is committed to minimizing the disruption caused by this project. They are collaborating closely with the contractor to ensure timely completion of the work, potentially reopening the road earlier if feasible.

Upon completion, this project promises residents and visitors a safer and more enjoyable travel experience. The new bridge will meet current standards, reflecting the County’s dedication to infrastructural improvement.
