FELLSMERE — A 25-year-old man from Idaho was killed Monday morning when his sports car left Interstate 95 and crashed into a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred around 6:42 a.m. on the northbound side of I-95 near mile marker 151, just north of State Road 60 in Indian River County. Troopers said the driver, whose name has not been released, was traveling in the outside lane of the highway in a 2023 Subaru BRZ.
For reasons that remain unclear, the vehicle drifted off the road to the right, heading northeast onto the grassy shoulder on the east side, where it struck a tree, according to the patrol.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are still looking into what caused the car to veer off the interstate, but no other vehicles were involved.
The crash briefly disrupted traffic in the area, though lanes were cleared by mid-morning.
