SEBASTIAN — Authorities cleared a Sebastian gas station Thursday after detonating a suspicious bag discovered there, with an investigation into the item continuing.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad carried out a controlled detonation of the bag, police said in an update. No additional details were released.
The incident unfolded at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Speedway station, located at 700 U.S. Highway 1. The Sebastian Police Department initially urged the public to steer clear of the area as they examined the bag.
“A vehicle dropped it off and then just left,” Deputy Chief Timothy Wood said.
Officials provided no information on what the bag contained or whether anyone was in custody. No injuries were reported.
The Speedway remained closed for hours during the response but reopened after the all-clear.
