Law enforcement officials say two people from Vero Beach were killed on Saturday at approximately 2:00 a.m. on southbound Interstate 95 near Micco.

A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson told Sebastian Daily that a 33-year-old Vero Beach man driving a Dodge Hellcat car was allegedly going above the speed limit before hitting the back of a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The truck was driven by a 25-year-old man who had a 25-year-old female passenger and two other occupants in the vehicle. All four truck occupants were from Vero Beach.

FHP says the Dodge Hellcat “failed to slow” as it approached the pickup truck. The front of the car struck the rear of the truck, causing both vehicles to leave the highway and overturn. The car overturned multiple times, ejecting the driver.

The driver of the car and the pickup truck passenger were pronounced deceased at the crash site. Two other occupants in the truck were transported to Holmes Regional with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
