MICCO — Two motorcyclists were killed Sunday when their bikes slammed into an SUV that turned into their path in south Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Micco Road, just east of Babcock Street. Troopers said the victims, a 24-year-old man riding a Suzuki and a 19-year-old man on a Honda, were both from nearby Barefoot Bay and were heading east at speeds above the posted limit.
A 71-year-old woman from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, was driving a westbound 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe with a 79-year-old male passenger from Wyoming, Pennsylvania. She attempted a left turn into a private driveway, pulling directly in front of the oncoming motorcycles, investigators said.
The impact sent both bikes off the road, where they burst into flames. The riders were thrown into a ditch and pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s occupants suffered only minor injuries and declined medical transport.
Names of the deceased were not immediately released. The Tahoe driver and passenger were not cited Sunday, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Micco Road was closed for several hours as crews cleared the wreckage. Local residents described the area as prone to accidents, especially with increased traffic from nearby developments.
Brevard County has seen a spike in motorcycle fatalities this year, with officials urging riders to adhere to speed limits and drivers to watch for two-wheelers.
No further details were available as of Monday.
