SEBASTIAN — Sebastian River High School senior Anthony “A.J.” Rossi has been named Player of the Week for the Sharks football team for his outstanding performance, which highlights his dedication both on and off the field.
Rossi, wearing No. 13, boasts a 3.9 GPA and has drawn academic interest from colleges, though he said he has no athletic offers yet. He’s been playing football for about 11 years, starting in peewee leagues where he scored his first touchdown—a memory he still cherishes for the excitement of sharing it with his family.
“The coaches have meant everything to me,” Rossi said. “They’ve helped me become not only a better football player but a better man.”
Looking ahead, Rossi plans to pursue a career in the automotive industry or sports analytics. Outside of football, he enjoys working on cars and listening to music.
Coaches praised Rossi’s grit and character. Markei Lynch, the Sharks’ running backs coach and president of the South Sebastian Youth Football and Cheer Association, has known Rossi since his youth days.
“I have had the privilege of knowing AJ Rossi since his youth football days,” Lynch said. “From the very beginning, AJ has stood out not only as a talented athlete but also as a remarkable young man. AJ is smart, kind, and deeply committed to everything he does. His work ethic is second to none, and he approaches both football and life with determination and love. While he may be smaller in size, he is triumphant in spirit—overcoming challenges and always rising to the occasion. Most importantly, AJ is devoted to his family and his team. His passion for football is matched only by his character, and it has been an honor to watch him grow into the young man he is today.”
Head coach Perry echoed those sentiments, noting Rossi’s relentless effort in practice.
“AJ is small in stature, but big in work ethic,” Perry said. “He knows that the grind of practice is just as vital as the game itself, showing up with a focused intensity every single day. He always giving his best during practice. At some time during the season, AJ will get the opportunity to give us an impactful play during the season.”
Rossi took time to thank those who supported him. He shouted out coaches Perry and Lynch for boosting his football IQ and guiding his journey. He also expressed gratitude to his family, especially his mom and dad, for standing by him every step. And he gave a nod to his girlfriend, Naomi, for her motivation over the years.
The SRHS Sharks’ next game takes them on the road to face Astronaut High School in Titusville, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025
