SEBASTIAN — Sebastian River High School’s athletic department is basking in a string of historic achievements this spring, from track and field stars shattering decades-old records to a baseball pitcher tossing a perfect game, a feat that echoes the program’s distinguished past.

Track and Field Record Breakers

Over the past two weeks, Sebastian River’s track and field team has produced multiple record-setting performances.

Sophomore Jamaiya Holson reset her own school mark in the javelin throw with a toss of 106 feet, 4 inches, topping the record she set last year. She also climbed to second on the all-time list in the discus with a throw of 137 feet, 9 inches. Holson didn’t just shatter her own javelin record—she embodied the spirit of relentless improvement, as coach Warren stated:

“Jamaiya has the drive to keep pushing herself and improving, no matter the circumstances. She competes with confidence and stays composed under pressure. Her ability to stay positive and resilient allows her to rise to challenges and continue developing as a high-performing athlete. This determination has helped her excel and makes her a great example of hard work and perseverance.”

Senior Devon Dawkins extended his impressive run by breaking his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 166 feet.

Head track and field coach Tyrone Perry tells Sebastian Daily, “Devon embraces the daily grind and stays focused on what he can control. Through discipline and consistency, he continues to transform his natural talent into high-level performances.”

Senior Maurice Mewborn sprinted into the record books with a 21.70-second time in the 200 meters, eclipsing a 26-year-old school standard.

Coach Perry remarks about Mewborn, saying, “Maurice is defined by his mental toughness, disciplined training habits, and natural physical ability. He carries himself with quite confidence; he’s not cocky, but fully confident in his preparation, training, and skill set.”

Notable Leaps

Joniah Holson

Other athletes accomplished notable leaps on the all-time leaderboards.

Senior Joniah Holson vaulted to second in school history in the shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 10¾ inches, trailing only her coach, SRHS alumna and University of South Florida graduate Atasha Warren.

She went on to say, “Joniah is a standout student-athlete known for her dedication, hard work, and strong character. Always supportive of her teammates, she leads by example with a positive attitude and willingness to help others succeed. Each season, she has grown into an even more confident and skilled athlete. Her determination and relentless work ethic helped her develop into a fierce competitor. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to coach her and look forward to seeing what she accomplishes this season.”

Sophomore Donnie Bryant surged to fourth all-time in the discus with 158 feet, 4 inches, and third in the shot put at 52 feet, 7 inches.

Perry goes on to say, “Bryant puts in work every single day, dedicating himself to refining his throwing skills. His raw determination and commitment to improving are what set him apart from others at such a young age.”

Sharks Baseball – Perfect Game

On the diamond, the baseball team etched its own milestone when Pitchers Jamison Jones hurled a perfect game at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with 10 strikeouts. A rarity where no batter reaches base via hit, walk, or error.

The feat held extra meaning for head coach Bryan Augenstein, a former Shark and major leaguer who once pitched a perfect game on the same field.

Augenstein praised his pitcher following the historic outing: “Jamison has been an anchor in the pitching staff for the past couple of years now,” Augenstein told Sebastian Daily. “This is my first season coaching him, and he’s a great kid on and off the field. He has taken a leadership role and bought into the mentality we are looking to establish within our pitching staff. Him throwing a perfect game is a reflection of his hard work and ability to consistently get into advantage counts on the mound. Super proud of him and looking forward to watching his continued growth throughout the rest of the season.”

Athletic director Terri Amy said the surge reflects broader dedication across spring sports.

“Our spring sports are all working so hard, and Shark Nation is proud of them,” Amy added.

These breakthroughs show the rising tide in Sebastian River athletics, as Sharks continue to cement their names in the record books and honor their school’s legacy.
