Frederick J. Klecar, a devoted family man, firefighter, Navy Reserve Chief, and lifelong public servant, passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Fred dedicated his life to service, community, and family. Fred proudly served as a New York City firefighter, a career he pursued with courage and integrity.
In addition to his role in the FDNY, he also served as a chief in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was a volunteer in his hometown of Congers, N.Y., a true testament to his lifelong commitment to helping others.
As he approached retirement from the fire department, Fred embarked on a new adventure by purchasing a local restaurant, The Pie Man, which he owned and operated successfully for 20 years. His work ethic and passion carried into everything he did, and his restaurant became a place of pride and connection to the community.
Fred and his wife, Cecilia (who passed away in 2004), moved their family to Congers, N.Y., where they raised their children with love, strong values, and a deep sense of community. After retiring, Fred relocated to Virginia and spent his winters in Micco, Florida, where he enjoyed the warmth and the freedom of frequent motorcycle day trips.
An avid gardener and nature lover, he found peace feeding the deer that visited his yard daily, always ready with a treat.
Fred will be remembered for his generosity and strong spirit. He leaves behind his wife, Marcia, and children, Debi Pedersen (Will), Linda Vitiello, Frederick Klecar (Diana), and Donna Hernandez (Julia), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
