Pompano fish biting near Sebastian Inlet

Pompano fish

The Florida pompano fish are biting just south of the Sebastian Inlet along the coastal beaches.

“It’s a high-quality fish, super good meat,” Michael Hanlon told Sebastian Daily.

Hanlon and another fishing friend were on a boat, drifting north and south of the inlet. They caught one big pompano north of the inlet, then went south and got two more along the coast.

“The waves come over that shallow area, and they stir up the sand, and that’s where the pompano are,” Hanlon said.

Hanlon used Doc’s Goofy Jig as bait, which is a fishing lure designed for pompano fish. These lures are durable, and you can catch a variety of fish with them. They cast well and are inexpensive. They sell a variety of versions and colors.

Also, the redfish are biting at the Sebastian Inlet. We spoke with several people who caught them inside the inlet and from the jetty.
