Fishing at Sebastian Inlet has seen a decline because of unfavorable weather, serving as a reminder to anglers that winter continues to persist.
In a conversation with Wayne Landry, known as the Snookman at the inlet, he mentioned that the fishing conditions have not improved. Moreover, the North Jetty has been inaccessible since the previous week, with no updates regarding its reopening.
“The water quality and clarity is still a problem for a good bite; it is still very muddy and also still showing 62 degrees along the coast,” Landry shared with Sebastian Daily.
The optimal days for those planning to fish are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, thanks to gentler winds. The forecast for the weekend suggests the possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms, though we’ll publish another weather report by Friday.
Wind gusts this weekend could hit 25 mph, with a 40 percent chance of rain on Saturday increasing to 60 percent on Sunday, primarily at night.
Recent reports from anglers fishing off the South Jetty include catches of sheepshead, bluefish, smaller black drum, and some snook within legal size limits, predominantly using live and dead shrimp for bait.
Boaters can expect sea conditions of 3 to 4 feet until Friday, after which they will improve to 2 to 3 feet, with calmer seas this weekend due to southerly winds.
One fisherman recounted his brief visit to the pier, opting to leave immediately upon noticing the water’s poor condition. Anglers may find more success casting their lines from the piers along the Indian River Lagoon or the St. Sebastian River.
