The 4th of July is a highly anticipated and celebrated holiday in Sebastian. Every year, this vibrant community eagerly comes together to celebrate the birth of our nation in a spectacular display of patriotism and unity.
In Sebastian, Independence Day is more than just a day off work or an excuse for fireworks. It is a celebration that brings the community together, reinforcing the deep bonds among its residents. From early morning until night, the town streets are filled with families, friends, and neighbors dressed in red, white, and blue, proudly displaying their American spirit.
The day starts with a lively parade featuring colorful floats, the Sharks marching band, and enthusiastic participants waving flags and cheering.

Following the parade, the community gathers at Riverview Park for a day full of festivities to celebrate the nation they call home. Then, at dusk, residents come together along Indian River Drive to watch our beautiful fireworks display.
52nd Annual Freedom Festival
The City of Sebastian & Lions Club’s 52nd Annual Freedom Festival schedule of events is as follows:
- 8:30 am: The parade starts near the Community Center at Davis St. and Central Ave. and proceeds down Indian River Drive to Riverview Park
- 10:00 am – 8:00 pm: Beer Sales at the Beer Concession
- 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Hula Hoop Contest
- 11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Live Music – Sax On The Beach
- 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Watermelon Eating contest at the Bandstand (no hands allowed)
- 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Live Music – Sleepin’ Dogz
- 2:45 pm – 3:15 pm: Water Balloon Throwing Contest (during a band break)
- 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Karaoke Contest held by Brian Arnold ($50.00 Grand Prize & $20.00 2nd Place Prize)
- 6:00 pm – until Fireworks: Bobby Owen Band Country, Blues, Oldies
- 9:00 pm: Fireworks at the twin piers

American Legion Post 189
The American Legion Post 189 is excited to invite the community to their Fourth of July Open House, which will commence at 10:00 am, following the parade.
Located at 807 Louisiana Ave in Sebastian, this event promises a day of celebration and gratitude. As a gesture of appreciation, they will provide all attendees with free hotdogs and sides, ensuring nobody goes hungry.
Additionally, at noon, the Sons of the American Legion will draw the winning raffle ticket for a POW-MIA Bowie knife, with the proceeds going towards their “Remember our Heroes Fund,” a noble cause dedicated to honoring and supporting our brave veterans.
