The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said a tragic incident unfolded when two men were found fatally shot Monday afternoon in Vero Lake Estates.
Sergeant Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, said both victims were males. The bodies were discovered close to a vehicle with bullets on the road.
Sheriff Eric Flowers said there were bullet holes in the vehicle, broken glass and a variety of money scattered in the roadway. “The vehicle does not belong in this neighborhood, nor does it belong in this county. We’ve been in touch with our counterparts in another county where this vehicle does belong. They’re assisting us with this investigation now,” Flowers said.
According to Flowers, one body was uncovered in the yard, while the other was situated in front of the vehicle. Deputies also came across sandals and a cellphone near one of the bodies. The vehicle was parked alongside the road near a wooded lot. Flowers suggested the shooting could be drug-related, but it’s too early in the investigation.
Deputies were dispatched to the 7700 block of 105th Court around 3 p.m. in response to reports of bodies being found.
The investigation into this double homicide is ongoing, with law enforcement officials interviewing witnesses and searching for evidence.
During today’s press conference, the sheriff’s office didn’t provide additional details about the victims or suspects.
Update: An arrest has been made in connection with the double murder that occurred in Vero Lake Estates yesterday. Further information will be provided later today.
