Damien Gilliams and his son Damien Lee Fey Gilliams will go to trial Wednesday, June 1, 2022, for allegedly filing a false police report against Mayor Jim Hill, accusing him of battery.
According to Gilliams and his son, Hill purposely bumped into Damien Lee Fey Gilliams last year at the courthouse and said something derogatory in front of his family and lawyer.
Gilliams was at the courthouse for his trial on perjury charges and violating the Sunshine Law before Sebastian citizens removed him from public office during a recall.
Hill denied the allegations and said he only walked near them looking for the courtroom. However, Hill was at the courthouse to testify against Gilliams during last year’s criminal case.
After reviewing the video surveillance tapes at the courthouse, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office agreed with Hill and issued an arrest warrant for both Gilliams and his son.
“The Sheriff’s Office is not going to stand for false allegations. The video evidence was clear and showed the allegations were not true. There are consequences for making a false report,” Lieutenant Pat White, Criminal Investigations for Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, told Sebastian Daily.
As for the trial, which was already delayed once by Gilliams, jury selection will begin at 9 a.m. If things go as scheduled, the trial will start after lunch.
After the Sebastian citizens removed his father during the 2020 recall, Damien Lee Fey Gilliams tried to run for City Council last November, only receiving 230 votes.
