Crime Scene Unit in Fellsmere

A body was recovered in Fellsmere Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of North Willow Street and Lincoln Street.

Fellsmere Police Chief Keith Touchberry told Sebastian Daily that a resident discovered the body while cleaning up a vacant lot.

“An area resident found the body, and our crime scene unit, along with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, are processing the scene,” Touchberry said.

The scene was processed by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene unit and the body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Ft. Pierce.

An autopsy will be conducted at 9:00 am Monday, October 11th. Due to the level of decomposition, the race and gender of the body have not been determined at this time. The manner of death is also undetermined.

Personal items of value were found underneath the body that will likely aid in identification.
