SEBASTIAN — Animal lovers in Indian River County have a chance to support senior rescue dogs at an upcoming charity event, which offers music, food, and plenty of senior dogs’ tails wagging.
H.A.L.O. No-Kill Rescue’s annual Woofstock fundraiser is slated for 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Pareidolia Brewing Company in Sebastian. The event is a fundraiser for older dogs in need of homes, and donations will be matched up to $25,000 by the Doug McDowell Memorial Fund.
Attendees will groove to live acoustic oldies by the duo HairPeace, grab a bite to eat courtesy of Off The Hook Food Truck, and have an opportunity to pet adoptable senior dogs searching for forever homes. There will be raffles for fabulous prizes contributing to the excitement!
Doug McDowell Memorial Fund
The Doug McDowell Memorial Fund was established after the death of Sebastian resident Douglas N. McDowell, a devoted animal lover and advocate for senior dogs.
McDowell died on Dec. 5, 2018; he was 66 years old. The fund was established by his wife, Cheryl Trotta, to continue her husband’s legacy of providing for older rescue animals less likely to be adopted.
Those who can’t make it in person can take part online, donating through the rescue’s website (contributions are still eligible for the match).
Founded in 2006, H.A.L.O. has saved thousands of animals through its no-kill policy and specializes in finding homes for hard-to-place pets – including senior cats and dogs. The nonprofit organization met its $25,000 goal last year, raising $50,000 for its senior residents. For more information or to donate, go to halorescuefl.org or call (772) 589-7297.
