As summer winds down and the back-to-school buzz ramps up, Waste Management is stepping up once again to help local students gear up for success.
For the ninth consecutive year, the company has partnered with the Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC) to distribute 250 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children attending the center’s summer camp.
The gesture is all about giving youngsters the basics they need to hit the ground running when classes resume, from notebooks and pencils to other essentials that can make a big difference for families on a tight budget.
Debbie Perez, a senior account executive at Waste Management, shared her enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership. “At WM, we’re committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve,” she said. “Partnering with GYAC each year allows us to support local students with the school supplies they need for a strong start. It’s a tradition we look forward to every July.”
The backpacks found their way to campers at GYAC’s Summer Camp, a program that’s mastered the art of blending learning with leisure. Kids get to brush up on academics while diving into fun activities, ensuring they stay sharp without missing out on summer’s carefree vibes.
The camp serves as a bridge, helping students transition back into school mode while enjoying the last bits of vacation freedom.
