The Sea Turtle Conservancy will host a turtle release and tracking event on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 7:30 am to 9:00 am at the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge.
The unique and educational event will feature the attachment of satellite transmitters to two adult loggerhead turtles, followed by their release back into the ocean as part of the Conservancy’s annual Tour de Turtles migration marathon.
This free, family-friendly event offers a rare opportunity for attendees to witness conservation in action. They will be able to observe as turtles are equipped with tracking devices, enabling the public to follow their migratory journeys online at www.tourdeturtles.org after the release.
It will take place in the heart of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, a critical nesting ground for sea turtles. Parking will be available at the Barrier Island Center, Bonsteel Park, or along A1A. It’s recommended that observers arrive by 7:30 a.m., as the turtle release will take place at 8:30 a.m.
Educational Activities & Giveaways
The event will feature educational activities for all ages and free giveaways. The Tour de Turtles program not only highlights the incredible migrations of sea turtles but also raises awareness about the threats they face and the importance of protecting their habitats.
