Sebastian youth join Power Mow for teamwork and community engagement

Children and parents in Sebastian are signing up for Power Mow, an event to help the community by promoting teamwork while providing a valuable service to those in need.

The Power Mow was created to assist children who have signed up for the 50 Yard Challenge to cut 50 lawns free for the elderly, disabled, single parents, veterans, or anyone in need of help in their town.

The Power Mow event will be on May 20, 2023; organizers and supporters will mow lawns with children to participate in a 50-yard challenge.

“The Power Mow involves mowing as many lawns as possible within four hours, with the stipulation that the group can only work on one lawn at a time,” said Rodney Smith Jr. “If your child is struggling with motivation to get the challenge done, this may be a great opportunity for them.”

Parents can nominate their children for consideration, and they may receive a Power Mow Card in the mail, which will come with instructions. The organization schedules the lawns in advance.

Hank Miller, 12, of Sebastian (pictured above) received his card in the mail. He signed up last year and has 16 lawns under his belt.

The Power Mow cards have no expiration date but can only be used once. The card can also be gifted to another child if desired. These yards mowed on Power Mows will count towards their 50-yard challenge.

Participants are welcome to join in or come to support the effort. To learn more about the program or to signup, visit the Power Mow website
