Jacque Petrone founded HALO Rescue No-Kill Shelter in 2005. This non-profit organization saves over 2000 animals each year.

In 2016, 1,400 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens still lost their lives in Indian River County. However, HALO is determined to put an end to this through local help.
