SEBASTIAN — The City of Sebastian installed a display of blue pinwheels outside City Hall and the Police Department on Thursday to mark the start of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The “Pinwheels for Prevention” exhibit, a joint project with the Sebastian Police Department and Safe Families for Children, uses the bright blue symbols to represent the safe, stable, and nurturing environments every child deserves.
Research shows that children’s early experiences shape their lives for years to come, affecting physical and mental health, school performance, and social skills. Safe Families for Children has stepped in to help more than 85,000 families nationwide by connecting them with support networks aimed at preventing abuse and neglect and keeping families together.
“Our goal is to surround families with a strong network of support, prevent child abuse and neglect, and keep families safely together,” said Michele Buldo, church and community engagement coordinator for Safe Families for Children.
Sebastian City Manager Brian Benton said the city was glad to host the display and spotlight the group’s work.
“Safe Families for Children provides meaningful support to children and families when they need it most,” Benton said. “The City of Sebastian appreciates their compassion, service, and the positive impact they make in our community. The City is happy to help raise awareness by placing these pinwheels in front of City Hall and the Police Department today.”
City officials said they remain committed to programs that promote the safety, health, and well-being of children and families throughout Sebastian.
