SEBASTIAN — Residents and visitors in Sebastian will have a chance to gaze at the stars for free next week, thanks to a joint event by the city and a local astronomy group.
The City of Sebastian is teaming up with the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society to host a Star-Gaze gathering at Riverview Park on Feb. 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is open to the public at no cost, offering an evening under the night sky.
Attendees can bring their own telescopes or binoculars, though society members will be on hand with equipment to share views. For those looking to sweeten the experience, the Strong Island Ice Cream truck will be parked nearby, selling treats throughout the event.
Organizers say the Star-Gaze aims to spark interest in astronomy among families and followers in the area. Riverview Park provides a scenic spot with minimal light pollution for optimal viewing.
The Treasure Coast Astronomical Society is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting stargazing and education. It has held similar events in the region for years. Sebastian officials noted that the partnership demonstrates community participation in science and outdoor activities.
The event will proceed as scheduled, weather permitting. In case of clouds or rain, check the city’s website for updates.
