Poker run for Sebastian resident running in the Boston Marathon for charity

Tammy Stoops of Sebastian, Florida

Last December, we published an article about a Sebastian woman hoping to run in the Boston Marathon. She got in, but she still needs to raise money for charity.

So far, Tammy Stoops has raised nearly $6,000. The goal is $7,500. To donate to this good cause, please visit her webpage.

In addition, there’s also a poker run scheduled to help Stoops raise money on Sunday, April 9, 2023, with registration at 9:00 am.

Inaugural Rock N’ Roll Poker Run:

There is a cash prize, raffle baskets, and a door prize. Here are some of the raffle prizes for the poker run.

Stoops is raising money in the marathon for Cardinal Cushing Centers, a charity that helps people with intellectual disabilities. Their programs for students and adults include education, employment training, transition services, residential care, and therapeutic and recreational services.

She started running in 2014 to lose weight. Her first 5k was in 2015, and her first half marathon was in 2016. In 2017, she completed her first full marathon.

After completing her first full marathon, Stoops set up some goals to run at least a half marathon in each state and all major world marathons. She also set a goal to complete one entire ironman race.

So far, Stoops has run 41 half marathons in 24 states & DC. To date, she has run six full marathons, including the majors in New York City (2017), Tokyo (2019), Berlin (2019), Chicago (2021), and London (2022).

Once she completes the Boston Marathon, Stoops will join an elite group of worldwide six-star finishers. She will be awarded an Abbott Six Star Medal and included in their hall of fame. There are only 8,148 people in the world who have achieved this impressive feat, 1,544 in the US, 684 of them are women.
