VERO BEACH — The Indian River County Library System is hitting the road to bring books and community connection to residents who can’t easily make it to a library branch.
Library staff recently visited Garden View Health and Rehab in Vero Beach, where they delivered fresh reading material to residents. The outreach effort aims to serve those who are facility-bound or face other barriers to accessing library services.
“The amazing Garden View crew always welcomes us with open arms — they make every visit feel like home,” said Hollie McDougall, manager of the Brackett Library.
Such visits allow residents to socialize and dive into popular titles by authors like James Patterson or Colleen Hoover, McDougall said. The library system often pops up in unexpected spots, including Walking Tree Brewery’s book swaps, the IG Center and various county festivals.
The initiative reflects the library’s belief that public libraries enhance the quality of life in the communities they serve. Officials are seeking more partnerships in Indian River County to expand these efforts.
“We bring the books and the fun,” the library said in a statement.
The system’s mission is to provide access to recorded wisdom, experiences and ideas for people of all ages and circumstances. It assembles and organizes materials, offers programs for personal, educational, cultural and recreational enrichment, and uses trained staff and modern technology to meet community needs.
