SEBASTIAN – While June marks the end of school in and around Sebastian, it’s also Internet Safety Month, which is a good time to remind parents, educators and youth service providers about the top safety threats facing children, how to protect them, and what to do if they become a victim.
SafeWise recently published its new 2019 Guide to Kids Internet Safety to warn parents of cyber threats like cyberbullying, online predators and inappropriate content.
“Over 55% of tweens (kids age 10-12) have been exposed to violent content on the internet, and nearly 60% have come across sexually explicit words or images,” Krystal Rogers, SafeWise spokeswoman, told Sebastian Daily.
The the comprehensive and illustrated guide most up-to-date information available, state-by-state laws, advice from experts, preventative tips, and resources for children who have been victims of internet crimes.
Florida has some of the most supportive laws in the country when it comes to protecting kids online, but it’s important that both adults and children are aware of the latest cyber threats so they can avoid them, said Rogers.
The guide includes a free downloadable pdf that can be used by parents, educators, caregivers and other youth service providers to prepare their kids for summer break.
