Lieutenant Scott Newsom was recognized last night by the One Hundred Club of Indian River County as the Fellsmere Police Department’s Officer of the Year
Lt. Newsom was selected as our 2019 officer of the year for multiple reasons. In addition to his responsibilities as the second in command of the police department, Scott’s handling of a robbery investigation during the year and his attendance at the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer Course at the University of Louisville stood out in 2019.
Each year the One Hundred Club of Indian River County recognizes public safety professionals in this manner and our community is fortunate to have such a benevolent group looking after police, fire, and EMS personnel in Indian River County.
Their annual awards presentation usually occurs in the spring but was postponed due to COVID-19.

The Mission of the One Hundred Club of Indian River County is to support by gratuitous charitable gifts contributions for the benefit of dependent widows children of public safety officers who, while in the employ of a municipal corporation located in IRC or State of Florida within Indian River Co., who lost their lives in the line of duty.
