VERO BEACH — As people navigate the later stages of life, often dubbed the “fourth quarter,” resources can be scarce compared to earlier phases like raising kids or planning weddings. But a local event aims to bridge that gap with expert advice on handling physical and emotional changes.
The American Association of University Women-Vero Beach branch is hosting a speaker luncheon Oct. 18 featuring Tana Wagner, a registered nurse with VNA Community Health Services, and Candi Alexander, a licensed clinical social worker and director of social services at VNA.
They’ll discuss what’s normal aging versus signs that might need professional help, managing expectations for oneself and family, and ways to thrive at any age.
The talk, sponsored by AAUW-Vero Beach, starts at 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2555 58th Ave. Admission costs $25, with registration available online at AAUWverobeach.org. The deadline to sign up is Oct. 13.
Wagner and Alexander plan to emphasize practical steps for a healthier, happier later life, drawing from their experience in community health and social services. “Knowing what to expect and preparing effectively may help us have a happier, healthier ‘Fourth Quarter,'” according to event organizers.
AAUW-Vero Beach, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, directs all proceeds from the event toward scholarships for women and girls in Indian River County. The group focuses on advancing equity for women through education, research and advocacy.
