VERO BEACH — Progressive rock fans can catch a unique reunion of sorts with Emerson, Lake and Palmer in a special concert blending live performance and video footage from the band’s heyday.
The event, titled “An Evening with Emerson, Lake and Palmer,” is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at The Emerson Center. It’s the kickoff to MusicWorks’ latest concert series, featuring drummer Carl Palmer and his ELP Legacy band performing alongside large-screen projections of keyboardist Keith Emerson and vocalist-bassist Greg Lake from a 1992 sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Tickets range from $50 to $110 and are available by visiting this convenient link: Tickets & Event Details. Organizers recommend buying early, as the show highlights ELP’s signature hits like “Lucky Man,” “Still You Turn Me On” and “Karn Evil 9.”
Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake and Palmer became one of the 1970s’ top progressive rock acts, selling an estimated 48 million records worldwide and earning nine gold albums in the U.S. Their sound mixed classical adaptations with jazz and symphonic elements, often spotlighting Emerson’s innovative use of organs, synthesizers and pianos.
Palmer’s live band includes guitarist Paul Bielatowicz and bassist Simon Fitzpatrick, who plays the Chapman Stick. The production uses modern technology to simulate a full-band experience, drawing praise from outlets like Rock Cellar Magazine, which called it “a groundbreaking multimedia tour/experience” tied to the group’s 50th anniversary.
Before the main show, a limited VIP Q&A session with Palmer and his band runs from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Priced at $50 separately, it includes a photo opportunity and early merchandise access, but no autographs. Only 50 spots are available.
The concert is produced by MusicWorks and held at The Emerson Center, located at 1590 27th Ave. on the campus of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach. Doors open at 6 p.m. for will call, with seating starting at 6:30 p.m. An elevator serves the second-floor balcony, and complimentary listening devices are offered. A wine and snack bar will be in the lobby.
Sponsors include Joe and Denise Corr as presenting sponsors, plus Cindy O’Dare and Richard Boga of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, and Ocean Grill. Additional backers are John and Linda Colontrelle, AC and Ann Starkey, AMAC Alex MacWilliam Real Estate, Barbara Ruddy, and Image 360 of Vero Beach for printing.
