On Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing kayaker from Vero Beach.
Donald Waters, 42, was last seen with his kayak near Sexton Plaza in Vero Beach Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
The kayak was located about two and a half miles southeast of the Sebastian Inlet by boaters. A couple of days later, a backpack with Waters’ personal items was found about 12 miles east of Vero Beach.
The search included the Coast Guard, Vero Beach Police Department, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
The search included more than 7,000 square nautical miles and took 114 hours.
