City of Sebastian to Install New Welcome Signs and Batteries for Golf Carts

Mayor Ed Dodd

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2020, the Sebastian City Council approved new welcome signs to be installed, replacing the ones that have served their use.

The new signs will still have Sebastian’s iconic slogan, “Friendly People & Six Old Grouches.”

The signs are similar to the previous scheme and will replace the ones already on U.S. Highway, Sebastian Boulevard (CR-512), 66th Avenue, Barber Street, and Schumann Drive.

The signs were approved by the City Council on July 22, 2020, for the amount of $44,000. The new welcome to Sebastian signs were purchased with funds from the Recreation Impact Fund and CRA Fund.

SignStar was awarded the contract to replace the existing signs.

The City Council also approved the purchase of new batteries for 20 golf carts to increase cart availability to golfers at the Sebastian Municipal Golf Course.

Club Car was able to replace 35 additional batteries that were under warranty. At this time, there are over 100 batteries needed to re-power the rest of the cart fleet.
