Verizon has launched a competitive new promotion directly targeting customers of its main rivals, promising to meet or beat their current wireless bills for new switchers.
The promotion, dubbed “Bring your bill from AT&T or T-Mobile. We’ll give you a better deal,” encourages rival subscribers to bring their most recent monthly statement into a Verizon store for a customized offer.
The move comes as Verizon attempts to reverse recent customer losses and intensify the high-stakes battle for wireless market share. The carrier lost 51,000 postpaid phone customers in the second quarter of this year, according to its latest earnings report, while rivals gained hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
Under the new initiative, Verizon representatives are using a tool — which some employees have described on social media as “AI-powered” — to analyze an existing AT&T or T-Mobile bill. The tool reportedly maps the customer’s current plan features, including promotional credits and perks like streaming subscriptions, to a comparable Verizon plan.
The resulting offer is then often supplemented with additional credits and incentives to match or slightly undercut the rival’s final monthly cost. A key component of the deal is a three-year price lock guarantee on the base plan rate, which excludes taxes and fees.
For customers with multi-line plans, especially those with existing promotional device or line credits, the offer is designed to be particularly appealing. Some customers switching from T-Mobile have reported that Verizon has offered to match their existing streaming perks, such as included subscriptions to Netflix or Apple TV, if those services appeared on their original bill.
Analysts view the promotion as an aggressive attempt by Verizon to shed its long-standing reputation as the most expensive of the “Big Three” wireless carriers.
The new promotion follows a series of controversial pricing adjustments by Verizon earlier this year. The phone carrier removed certain loyalty discounts for existing customers. The new customer acquisition strategy appears to be a direct counterbalance to those changes.
The “Bring your bill” promotion is available to consumers who can provide a postpaid mobile bill from T-Mobile or AT&T, dated within the last 45 days. Additional terms and eligibility requirements apply.
